Project Overview
The Enel project is a utility-scale thermal energy storage system integrated into Enel’s Santa Barbara power plant in Tuscany. The system stores high-pressure steam as heat in crushed rock and later generates steam for power production. The project demonstrates how thermal storage can increase plant flexibility, reduce start-up times and support greater integration of renewable energy into the grid.
